GeoSUR Workshop on SRTM Derivative Development

June 8 - 12, 2009 at USGS/EROS

The GeoSUR Program ( sponsors the development of SRTM derivative products for South America. The workshop is geared towards South American specialists from national geographic institutes and other national agencies that produce topographic and base maps. As part of the workshop, these specialists will get an introduction to the SRTM dataset, will learn techniques needs to develop SRTM derivative datasets, and will become familiar with the GeoSUR SRTM geoprocessing service. The workshop is being organized by the GeoSUR Program, in partnership with the U.S. Geological Survey's Center for Earth Resources Observations and Science (EROS) and the Pan-american Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH).

Rapid Land Cover Mapper (RLCM)
An Introduction to the USGS's Rapid Land Cover Mapper Tool

The United States Geological Survey Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center developed the Rapid Land Cover Mapper (RLCM) tool to facilitate land use and land cover (LULC) classification of an area at a defined scale and resolution for multiple time periods. The RLCM tool is a vector/raster hybrid approach that lends itself to both multiple resolution and time-series mapping of LULC and many other geographic themes.
